[glow=red,2,000]Snow Angels[/glow]
Roughly the size of a pony or small horse, Snow Angels are on the avrage to small scale compaired to other dragons. They are smaller than Hollies and Yulebucks, as well as far more common than both breeds.
Color Variation
- Multicolored
- White-winged
- Gold-winged
Besides individual pattern and marking variation, all snow Angels come in one of three color variations. The one shown is called the Multicolor Winged. There is also he Gold winged, and the white Winged.
Personality and breed quirks
Snow Angels are either vain, selfish dragons who love looking beautiful and being lazy, or jolly and kind dragons, who love to play and make others happy. But with either one, they have a bad habbit of hoarding.
The vain ones will hoard shiney things that are reflective, such as christmas tree bobbels, while the jollyer ones dont discriminate, and collect any christmas ornament in sight. This does come down to an almost compleet halt during their breeding season though, and as that falls over a christmas, its the only christmas in 12 years that will be safe from the theifing of the decorations.
Powers and abilitys
With training, Snow Angels can become perfectly blended with winter conditions. They are able to suddenly dissapear, their markings becoming all but invisable in the snow and ice. This works best in blizzards, but can also have some usefullness in calmer conditions.
They are also 100% resistant to cold, meaning they can survive in the worst winter conditions, so long as they can find food and water. As far as heat goes, they hate it. They wont do well in tropical and desert enviroments.
Most common Dutys within the clans
Snow Angels tend to be either vain about their beauty, or very jolly and kind. Depending on their personality, they usualy either become broodmothers, having egg after egg, and then caring for both their eggs and the eggs of others, or they look after the hatchlings, their jolly natures giving a boost to the happyness of the hatchlings.
Occasionaly, they are used as scouts during winter, due to their dissapearing abilitys and reistance to cold. Some object to this though, due to the fact that they dont want to do any "real" work.
Diet
True obnivores, they will eat almost anything, but given the choice, will choose sweets and herbs over meat. Their favorate meat though, is Turkey.
If there is no native herbs, mosses or lychen in the realm where their clan lives, it is best to buy and plant herbs such as Basil, Thyme, Rosemarry, Dill and Fennel, and cultivate some Terran Mosses and lychens.
Breeding
Snow Angels vary as much as any female dragon in their mate prefrence, but most like other dragons of similar shape, size or habits to themselves. Many sucsessful pairs include mates that are Horse Dragons, White Dragons, Winter Dragons, and a few Ice dragons. Any other combination is possible. but its purly up to the prefrences of the Snow Angel.
They will not mate with Hollies, Yulebucks, Sweetlings or Black Marrows though, as well as the unbreedable species.
Any time outside their breeding season (every 12 years or so), they will only lay eggs of their mates breed. But for a few weeks every 12 years, they will be able to lay more snow Angel eggs. If they lay their eggs in the first few days of the breeding season, it is possible that they will be able to lay a seccond clutch of snow Angel eggs before the season ends.
During their breeding season, it is rare to have a single egg clutch, with most clutches having 2-3 eggs, and some having as many as 4. Wild Snow Angels can lay clutches as large as 8 eggs.
Habitat and what their den needs
Snow Angels love the cold, so unless your clan lives in a colder enviroment, they will need that cold some other way. Many tenders place the dens of cold-loving dragons far into the caves, so placing the den of your snow Angels with those of your Ice dragons and Winter dragons is a good idea.
If you cant do this, you may want to try and invest in some Terran technology, and get air conditioners for your Snow Angels. These can either be solar powered or dragon powered (if you have some Electric and/or Thunder Dragons), and can reduce the stress of heat on your snow Angels.
The size of the den need only be small, due to the small size of the breed. But it does need to be big enough to acomatate their habbit of hording christmas decorations, but this may need only be a large box on one side of the den. But be warned, the older they get, the bigger their hords, so eventualy they will need a bigger den!
Scale sale/what can they give me to sell?
The soft scales of the juvinile Snow Angel, once shed, are extreemly valuble. The have a unique tangy and sweet taste, and due to the limited time they are available, gain value throughout the years till they can ve sold for hundreds of marks for a single jar, but then drop in value again come the breeding season. Frozen hatchlings will shed their scales to grow new ones every 5 years or so, so they are a good source of income.
The scales of the adults are still rather soft for adult dragons, but the flavor changes depending on what they eat. With the ideal diet of sweets, turkey and herbs, they will have a sweet but slighly gamey taste, and are ideal for seasoning roasts. They shed scales at about the same rate as other adults, once every few years, and a few bad scales here and there, so its best to collect them and sell them when there is a shortage.
The feathers of their wings get shed more offten. They are used in cloathing, being very light, cold to the touch and being so beautiful. They are mainly in demand in hotter dimentions, where the cool feathers helps people stay cool. They are shed yearly, just after winter (or in the breeding season, just after they lay their eggs), but you have to be quick, as other dragons also like collecting them.
